DJ TURNS THE VOLUME DOWN MID-SET; CROWD HEARS THE SONG FOR THE FIRST TIME, WEEPS
Sound engineers call it "the bravest drop of the night." Club management calls it "against everything we stand for."

Clubgoers at the Imaginarium report that DJ Meesh, Mr. Samman's DJ persona, did something this week no one on the dance floor had seen before: in the middle of the biggest track of the night, he turned it down.
"Not off," said a witness. "Down. Way down. And suddenly you could hear everything. The melody. The bass line. The guy next to you saying something nice. It was like the song had been there the whole time, under all the noise."
Sound engineers say the move takes nerve. "Any DJ can go to eleven," said one. "It takes years to learn that the drop doesn't have to be louder. Sometimes the drop is the quiet after." Club management objected, citing the venue's long tradition of "too loud, always," but has since reported that people stayed longer and left happier.
Regulars connect the moment to this week's front page. "He used to think the loudest track won the room," said one. "Now he lets the quiet bit do the work. Same DJ. Different settings. Biggest dance-floor moment since Lion-O used the Sword of Omens for sight beyond sight instead of volume."
DJ Meesh's mixes are available in the Imaginarium. Listeners are advised to start at a reasonable volume and work down from there.
