ANGER MANAGEMENT INSTRUCTORS ADOPT ACTOR'S CLIP AS TRAINING VIDEO; 'ONE THING LED TO ANOTHER' NOW A FULL MODULE
Office scene, loosened tie, phone call and bruised arm studied frame by frame. Instructors say the lesson is in knowing when to turn it down.
Action & Stunts Desk, The Spoiler Alert
Anger management instructors this week announced that Anger Management, Mr. Samman's 2021 clip, has been adopted as a training video, under a module titled "One Thing Led to Another."
The phrase is Mr. Samman's own, from his description of the shoot: "One thing led to another. My arm bruised before my ego did." Instructors call it the most accurate account of an escalation they have ever read. "Nobody ever remembers what the first thing was," said one. "They only remember the other." The module's guest lecturer, a very large green scientist, opens every session by revealing his secret and closes it by apologising to the furniture.
Students are shown the office, the phone and the tie, and asked to identify the moment the volume should have come down. Most pick the phone call. Some pick the tie. One student, who had read this week's front page, picked an airline counter in Seattle and was given extra credit.
Stunt coordinators say the clip also carries a lesson for action performers: the body keeps the score. "The arm bruised first," said one. "The body always pays before the ego notices. That's true on a film set. Instructors tell me it's true everywhere else, too."
The clip airs on MeeshVision. Viewers are invited to watch it at a moderate volume, with their arms somewhere safe.
