PODCAST REVIEW: HOST'S 'GOOD JOB IN TECH' GETS THE PLAINEST ANSWER OF THE EPISODE
Three posts, one December week: a career left behind, a role that slipped away and a very loud introduction. Our critic listens to the first as a director's commentary track.

This week's episode of On The Air, "Hollywood's Echoes: A Reckoning," gathers three posts from December 2025: leaving tech on the 7th, a lost role on the 9th and the loud introductions on the 11th. This desk reviews it the way one reviews a commentary track, and starts with the first.
The best scene is a walk. A cousin is visiting from Saudi; they are on Hollywood Boulevard; "A few improv folks waved, some Second City people stopped to chat ..." and the host watches the cousin's face shift to "You're really doing this." A little smug voice in his head says, "Go tell the family how cool I've become." This desk rates the smug voice the most relatable cameo of the season.
Then the commentary does what good commentary does and tells you what was going on behind the shot. "But behind the pride was something else… Grief. That it took a diagnosis for me to finally say yes to the life I wanted." We report that as written and keep our jokes for elsewhere.
The post's title gives his answer whenever someone asks why he gave up "a good job": "It was killing me." He describes the faces that follow, shifting "from smug curiosity to awkward concern," and the well-meaning "have you tried"s. "Their hearts are in the right place," he writes.
On arrival in Hollywood, by his account, he "Took classes. Took risks," and "realized very quickly… I didn't know this world at all." Tia Jerker compared this stretch to George of the Jungle: "total commitment to the vine, no idea yet where the trees are." The host's own summary is shorter: "I didn't quit. I recalibrated."
Also in the episode: the role written for him in a friend's film, and the introduction on our front page. Listeners are advised to play the commentary track twice. The second time, listen behind the pride.
