HOST WEARS THREE COSTUMES IN ONE EPISODE: A CALM FACE, A STORMTROOPER HELMET AND A SMILE AT A SILENT GROUP CHAT

Released on Halloween: a flight emergency, an unanswered joke and a man crying inside his own armour. The music desk listened twice.

Music Desk, The Spoiler Alert

This week's episode of On The Air, "The Weight of Acknowledgment," was released on October 31, 2025, which is Halloween, and gathers three posts from the week before it. In an issue this paper has given over to costumes, our music desk notes that every one of them is about one.

The first costume is a face. During a mid-flight emergency, on final descent, a passenger slumped unconscious into the host's lap. His voice came out steady: "No problem, I got it." Inside, "My brain was screaming." His conclusion: "sometimes, calm is just a costume... worn long enough to fool even yourself." The passenger, the post notes, was taken care of. This desk reports that part with relief.

The second is a smile. He posts a joke in a group chat, gets "Not even a 'seen,'" and sits "smiling at the screen like it didn't matter. But it did." He cites a Baylor University study finding that being digitally ignored "lights up the same part of the brain as physical pain," and names the feeling precisely: "just... yuck." Then the turn: "I'm someone's silence too." Auntie Climax said she replies to every message within the minute, usually with three voice notes.

The third is armour. The host joined the 501st Legion and writes that in the suit, "I was badass." Then came a hospital visit. One child, "small, tired, hooked up to machines," sat up straighter. "Behind the helmet, I cried. Hard. Grateful no one could see my face."

From there, the post says, he joined Tokyo Theatre For Children and became "Baby Bear" in Three Little Pigs Out West. "Full costumes, full commitment," said Fitz Chekk, quoting the post back to it. "Ten." The host's own verdict: "The costume never stopped being cool. It just stopped being about me."
